What does ‘core + more’ mean?
Our approach focuses on stability, strength, and stretch. Our philosophy of fitness is that your foundation – or ‘core’ which comprises the deep abdominal muscles, hips, and back – must be strong before you build on it. Once that foundation has stability, you are ready for ‘more’ where we layer on strength through functional movement and progressive overload, and also give attention to flexibility and range of motion.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a unique method of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates which emphasizes balanced movement of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient movement. The six Pilates principles of centering, control, flow, breath, precision, and concentration are essential in all Pilates workouts, where quality of movement is emphasized over quantity. It is a full body exercise that works all the muscles and is easy on the joints.
What is a reformer?
Pilates exercises are done either on a mat or on exercise equipment developed by Joseph Pilates. The best known piece of Pilates equipment is the reformer, which utilizes a system of pulleys and resistance springs, in conjunction with the student’s own body weight, to create a total body workout.
